The Sensor Enabled Research & Control Hub (SEARCH) at the University of Strathclyde is looking for talented Senior R&D Engineers to join our growing team.

SEARCH is developing cutting-edge technologies that enable manufacturers to inspect components during welding and additive manufacturing, rather than after production. By identifying defects as they occur, we’re helping industry improve quality, reduce waste and manufacture critical components more efficiently.

Working alongside leading organisations across the energy, marine, defence and aerospace sectors, you’ll play a key role in delivering research that has real-world impact.

What you’ll be doing

• Integrate sensors with robotic and automated manufacturing equipment.
• Collect, analyse and interpret inspection data.
• Work closely with academic researchers and industrial partners to deliver collaborative projects.
• Lead technical work packages and support project planning and delivery.
• Present findings through technical reports, publications and conferences.
• Contribute to future research proposals and funding opportunities.
• Support and mentor colleagues within the research team where appropriate.

We’re looking for people who have:

• Experience designing or developing engineering systems within research or industry.
• Experience delivering technical projects to agreed timescales and quality standards.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from different disciplines.
• The ability to manage your own workload and contribute to team objectives.
• A willingness to travel to partner organisations for meetings and demonstrations.

Any required qualifications:

• A degree in Engineering, (Electrical, Physics etc) or a related discipline.
