This programme has been designed to support people who have had a career break or are trying to transfer their skills in to a new sector or one they used to work in. The roles in this programme tend to run on a 12 week placement with a view to securing a permanent role at the end of that period. Although it’s not guaranteed, 96% of our candidates who join the programme go on to secure permanent roles with their host organisation.

As a Software Engineer at Leonardo you will work in an agile team with other groups of 7-10 engineers. Together with almost 100 other engineers you’ll be challenged to ensure that technology such as the Eurofighter Typhoon continues to form the backbone of the nation’s air defence capability for decades to come.

You will collaborate with your colleagues to architect, design, implement and test new product functionality and contribute to planning the work and taking ownership for delivering it.

Skillset and Experience:

• Effective programming skills. For this role C++ will be the main language but we will consider anyone who has strong skills in other languages who is willing to learn.
• Experience working within an agile team and familiarity with agile software development life-cycle.
• The ability to collaborate and work with others. We encourage pair programming.
• The ability to develop suitable software solution from solution requirements.
• The ability to trace, diagnose and resolve potential software issues. Familiarity with a debugger.

Any required qualifications:

• Degree or HND qualified in a Computer Science or other relevant Engineering or Numerate subject (technology, engineering or science related discipline) or relevant experience.
