GE Vernova

This programme has been designed to support people who have had a career break or are trying to transfer their skills in to a new sector or one they used to work in. We know that any gap in work experience or a move away from a sector or skill set makes it very hard to return or join through standard recruitment channels.

The roles in this programme tend to run on a 12 week placement with a view to securing a permanent role at the end of that period. Although it’s not guaranteed, 96% of our candidates who join the programme go on to secure permanent roles with their host organisation.

As a candidate working with STEM Returners you have access to free CV writing and Interview coaching and if you are successful in securing the role you’ll get access to coaching and mentoring programme to help you thrive in the role.

If you meet the criteria for this role but are unsure if you are eligible for the programme, we encourage you to make an application.

Job Summary

We’re looking for someone early in their cybersecurity career to help design, secure, and support industrial network systems used in Operational Technology (OT) environments such as factories, energy, or critical infrastructure systems.

You’ll work with engineering and project teams to build secure industrial networks, improve cybersecurity, and help protect critical systems from cyber threats.

Main Responsibilities

  • Design and build secure industrial networks and systems based on project requirements.
  • Configure and support industrial networking equipment such as switches, firewalls, and secure communication systems.
  • Implement secure system architectures, including backup and high-availability solutions to reduce downtime.
  • Maintain accurate records of system assets, configurations, and cybersecurity documentation.
  • Help ensure systems meet cybersecurity standards and frameworks such as ISA/IEC 62443, NIST, Marine E27, and NCSC CAF.
  • Support cybersecurity reviews, risk assessments, and security improvements throughout projects.
  • Monitor new cyber threats and industry best practices to help improve OT security.
  • Provide technical cybersecurity support and advice to engineering and delivery teams.
  • Continue developing your cybersecurity skills and work toward professional certifications such as ISA/IEC 62443.

Requirements

  • Degree in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related subject — or equivalent practical experience.
  • Some hands-on experience or exposure to Operational Technology (OT), Industrial Control Systems (ICS), or industrial networks through graduate roles, internships, placements, or junior positions.
  • Basic experience configuring industrial networking equipment such as managed switches and firewalls.
  • Understanding of industrial systems such as PLCs, SCADA, DCS, or HMI systems, and how OT differs from standard IT environments.
  • Knowledge of core cybersecurity concepts such as network segmentation, system hardening, and secure network design.
  • Awareness of cybersecurity standards such as ISA/IEC 62443 or NIST.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a genuine interest in building a career in OT cybersecurity.

You can expect from us:

  • Challenging and exciting projects within marine naval, offshore and industrial applications.
  • A work environment where we understand that not everyone has the same expectations about their jobs, careers and work-life balance and we are happy to discuss flexibility requirements.
  • Attractive compensation with an annual bonus scheme and company car scheme.
  • Flexible benefits so you can build a package that fits your personal needs. Some core benefits are: Employer pension contribution (not subject to individual contribution), Income protection, Private Health Insurance and Life Assurance.
  • 34 Days vacation (including bank holidays)
