IChemE and STEM Returners Launch Partnership to Support Returners Back to Industry After Career Break.

The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) is proud to announce a new, trailblazing partnership with STEM Returners, launching on 23 June 2025 to coincide with International Women in Engineering Day (INWED25).

This collaboration is designed to support professionals re-entering chemical engineering and related sectors after a career break – of any kind. By combining IChemE’s global reach and technical leadership with STEM Returners’ expertise in return-to-work programmes, the partnership aims to build a more inclusive, resilient, and future-ready workforce.

Together, IChemE and STEM Returners will champion inclusive career pathways, address skills shortages by unlocking experienced talent, and equip employers and returners with the tools they need to succeed.

Dr Rachel Bibby, IChemE’s Director of Member Experience & Professional Learning said:

“This trailblazing partnership marks a bold step forward. It reflects our commitment to supporting members at every stage of their careers and advancing a more inclusive, future-ready profession. We are proud to partner with STEM Returners and excited about the difference we can make together.”

The initial phase of the partnership will deliver three co-branded initiatives:

  • Employer insight sessions: online events showcasing the evidence for recruiting returners, inclusive hiring practices, and returner success stories.
  • Returner support and resources: tailored mentoring, placements, technical content, and networking via IChemE Connect.
  • Mentor & Coach development: enhanced training and tools for those supporting returners.

Stay tuned for more updates and ways to get involved as we work together to Engineer a Sustainable World — for everyone.
