Domino launches second programme with us to support engineers back to work

We are proud to announce that Domino Printing Sciences (Domino) has partnered with us for a second time to help engineers return to work in manufacturing after a career break.

The new programme will offer roles across the UK and is open to professionals with any length of career break. We will source candidates and provide career coaching and mentoring throughout the 12-week paid programme. At the end of the placement, returners may be offered permanent roles at Domino.

This follows a successful pilot last year, where we supported experienced engineer Gary Jiang back into work after redundancy. Gary is now a permanent member of Domino’s Cambridge team as a hardware test engineer. Gary said:

“This role is in a completely new industry, but the team has been welcoming and supportive. There’s a lot to learn, and I feel energised by the challenge. The STEM Returners team have been really supportive and it’s a fantastic opportunity to connect with professionals, learn new skills, and explore different industries.”

Our research, the STEM Returners Index, shows that many people face barriers when trying to return to work after a career break. The biggest challenges include bias around lack of recent experience, gender, age, and race. Over half (51%) of respondents said a perceived lack of recent experience was a barrier to re-entry, up from 38% in 2023. More than a quarter (26%) of women said they experienced bias due to gender, compared to just 8% of men.

Through our programmes, we aim to remove these barriers by providing real work experience, mentoring, and support to help professionals transition back into work.

Our Director, Natalie Desty, said:

“We are very proud to continue our partnership with Domino to return highly skilled people back into the industry. There is a well-known skills shortage in manufacturing, but despite this, professionals who have had a career break are often overlooked. Only by working together can we change recruitment practices, help those who are finding it challenging to return, and improve diversity and inclusion.”

Luigi Pistilli, Domino UK General Manager, added:

“By working alongside STEM Returners, trusted for their experience in supporting returning professionals, we can connect with skilled, motivated individuals who share our values and strengthen our teams for the future.”

Since we launched in 2017, more than 600 candidates have joined our programmes across the UK.
